ADVENT CALENDARS
The Advent Calendars started being used by German Lutherans in the 19th century to count the days before Christmas. They can be made of paper, fabric or wood and contain the days in December and some nice activities that people can enjoy with their loved ones.
They can also display the manger scene, Saint Nicholas or winter landscape. People also like to draw large rectangular houses with lots of windows and doors to be opened. Behind the doors they hide an image, a poem, a Bible verse, a prayer, an activity to be done or a small gift, such as a toy or a sweet.
